Licence terms
Physical Development Audit Tool (PDAT) licence terms
These terms explain what you get when you buy a PDAT licence, and what we ask of you in return. We’ve kept them as short and clear as we can. If anything is unclear, please get in touch.
Who we are
PDAT is an online whole-setting audit of early years movement practice, at pdat.inspectorplay.com. It is provided by Inspector Play Ltd (company number 14171107).
When we say “we”, “us” or “our”, we mean Inspector Play. When we say “you”, we mean the person or organisation buying the licence.
What the licence gives you
A PDAT licence lets your setting use the online audit to reflect on how movement and physical development are supported across your setting.
Each licence includes the full online audit across all five sections, with your results and action plan. Sign-ins are explained under “Fair use” below.
Licence types and prices
| Licence | Who it’s for | Price | How to buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single Setting | One setting or site | £149 | Online by card |
| Childminder | Registered childminders only | £59 | Online by card, giving your registration number |
| Organisations | Groups with multiple settings | £995 a year for up to 10 settings. Larger organisations: contact us for a quote | Contact us; we invoice you |
No VAT is added to our prices. Every licence is a one-off payment for 12 months.
Charitable organisations: contact us about a discount.
An Organisations licence is £995 a year for up to 10 settings. If your organisation has more than 10 settings, contact us and we’ll give you a quote. Once we’ve received payment, we’ll set up your account with the number of settings agreed.
Childminder licence
The Childminder licence costs £59 and is for registered childminders only.
You buy it online by card. At checkout you must give your registration number: your Ofsted URN, your childminder agency registration number, or, outside England, the registration number from your regulator in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
We may check your registration number. If it doesn’t match a registered childminder, we’ll offer to switch you to a Single Setting licence for the £90 difference. If you’d rather not switch, we’ll cancel your licence and refund the £59 in full.
A Childminder licence works in the same way as a Single Setting licence, including one named sign-in.
How long it lasts and renewing
Every licence lasts 12 months from the date you buy it.
About 30 days before your licence ends, we’ll email you a reminder. Renewal is never automatic. We won’t take any further payment unless you choose to renew.
Payment
Single Setting and Childminder licences are paid online by card through Stripe, a secure payment provider. We never see or store your card details.
When you buy a Single Setting or Childminder licence, you’re asking for your access to PDAT to start straight away.
Organisations licences are paid by invoice.
Refunds and cancellations
Licences are paid for up front and are non-refundable once bought, because you get access to PDAT straight away.
The one exception is the Childminder licence: if your registration number doesn’t match a registered childminder and you’d rather not switch to a Single Setting licence for the £90 difference, we’ll cancel your licence and refund the £59 in full.
If something goes wrong on our side and we can’t provide PDAT, we’ll put it right or refund you. Just get in touch using the details below.
Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Fair use
Each person signs in to PDAT with their own email address. Sign-ins are personal and must not be shared.
- A Single Setting licence or a Childminder licence includes one named sign-in for the setting. That person can involve staff in completing the audit and share the results within the setting.
- An Organisations licence includes named sign-ins for the settings in your allowance.
To keep PDAT fair for everyone, please don’t resell, share, copy or republish the audit questions, results or other content outside your setting.
PDAT and the Building Blocks framework are the copyright of Weir & Battelley. Inspector Play Ltd provides PDAT and licenses it to settings. Your licence lets you use PDAT; it doesn’t transfer ownership. Your own results and reports are yours to use within your setting, for example with staff, parents or inspectors.
If a licence is clearly being misused, we may contact you and, if needed, suspend or end access.
Your data
We only collect the information we need to provide PDAT, such as your contact details, setting details and audit answers. We look after it carefully and never sell it. For full details, please read our privacy and cookies page.
Inspector Play Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), registration number ZC267853.
Following expiry of a PDAT licence, the setting’s audit data will be securely retained for up to 18 months to allow for renewal and continuity of assessment. After this period, the data will be securely deleted or anonymised, unless earlier deletion is requested. We’ll email you a month before this happens.
Where Inspector Play Ltd acts as a processor for your setting, you can ask us to return or delete your setting’s data when the service ends.
Commercial records (invoices, payments, and licence and transaction records) are kept separately for as long as accounting and legal rules require, and are not deleted with audit data.
Our responsibilities and limits
We’ll do our best to keep PDAT available, accurate and useful. Occasionally it may be unavailable for updates or for reasons outside our control.
PDAT is a tool to support reflective practice. It doesn’t replace your professional judgement, and it doesn’t replace your statutory duties, including the EYFS and Ofsted requirements. Decisions about your setting remain yours.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make an important change, we’ll let current licence holders know by email. The terms in place when you bought or renewed your licence will apply until it ends.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
